I don't think I'll ever get used to seeing bands perform inside record stores. It's just something so foreign and surreal to me.

I love them. I mean, where better to perform than in a room full of the best music the world has to offer? I love to watch FP play their accoustic sets and glance across at the racks where their CD's are on display. It gives me a real buzz. I once dreamed that I got locked in a massive record store overnight. That's my idea of heaven - every album I could ever wish to listen to and absolutely no distractions. A whole night of awesome sounds and enough room to dance to them. ;D

Believe me, you get over the mass amount of music really quick, especially when you have to go day in, day out of watching people gleefully purchasing the most ridiculous crap.

Yes, I'm sure that's true. But as I get so little time to listen to music these days I'd love the opportunity to be locked in with thousands of CD's. Perhaps I should work at the Cadbury's factory in Birmingham in the hopes that I'd stop eating so much chocolate. Oops, just popped another delicious square into my mouth!

Imagine having to come in ultra-early in the morning and having to inventory every one of those CDs... That said, it was a great place to try to coerce people to try something new.

And they probably make you listen crap music that's "popular," so you can "push" that record's sales??!! I think I would like to be "trapped" at Borders...music AND books! (And coffee!!!!) Liz

And they probably make you listen crap music that's "popular," so you can "push" that record's sales??!! Oh yeah, we had those wonderful in-store play discs that advertised the sale merchandise and all the latest hit singles. That's one thing I'll never understand about the music industry. it's kinda like politics. It is designed to keep the popular bands popular while only occassionally offering the little guys a glimpse of hope. I mean, you already know that bands like Metallica, Madonna, and Fall Out Boy are going to go platinum anyway, why bother advertising them, putting them on special sale end-caps and shoving it down people's throats while they are shopping? There is NO diversity in that, and it wastes record labels' monies that could be diverted to artist development. They never think about tomorrow; they are always concerned about how much they can make TODAY.
