Okay, so by this point, I would assume that everyone in here is not completely illiterate.
I was chatting with Seton in Ocean City, MD about books, and it turns out that the man is a reading machine. He said that he highly recommends Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks among other things.
I read a lot, too, but I have a bizarre attention span, so I tend to read multiple books simultaneously. That said, currently, I am reading the following books:
The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins (also recommended by former FP-er Dan Brown) The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman My Custom Van, by Michael Ian Black (recommended by "It's Kittyface!!!!!!")
Anyone else a reader?
Maybe we should start the official Fiction Plane Bookclub, and compete with Oprah! Hahahahahaha!

I'm a reader too! And also start and stop books all the time! A book really has to capture my attention or I'll stop it. I tend to read the same authors or if I like a new author, I go and research their books and read those. My fave author is Jon Krakauer. He was the guy that wrote "Into The Wild," (recent movie w/ Emile Hirsh.) Then he was one of the survivors of the tragedy in Everest in 1996 (Into Thin Air). His latest book is about the Moron Fundamentalists who killed his family because of their betrayal of faith. Here are his books: Into the Wild Into Thin Air Under the Banner of Heaven
I tend to read about survival- either through physical or emotional stress in a person's life. I recently finished Nando Parrado's true account of his survival in the Andes Mountains when his plane crashed (along w/his team mates.) His book is called, "Miracle in the Andes."
I also am reading Anderson Cooper's book about his travels while reporting. ("Dispatches from the Edge.) Liz

Is that the one that the movie Alive was based on? The only non-fiction I tend to read are biographies/memoirs. Steve Martin's latest, Born Standing Upwas great.

Yeah, but wouldn't it be cool to find a book that has a sticker on it saying, "As Recommended By The Official Fiction Plane Book Club"? Okay, that's just silly. And you're right, Oprah is trying to spoonfeed America her beliefs. One of the most disgusting displays of coercion I've ever seen. Dammit, how'd that soap box get over here?

The movie Alive is based on another book written shortly after the disaster happened. This book was written by the survivor. I think this is the first time one of them writes a book about their experience. For this author, I think he says this is the first time where he can go back and let himself "re-live" the experience. Actually, now that they can re-live the experience a lot of the survivors go to the Andes and the same place where they were stranded. They have a cross there and celebrate their dead team mates and family. The author Nando Parrado, was interviewed by Bryant Gumbel for this HBO show "Real Sports. I found another video w/an interview on youtube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkihr1fU4i4Liz

Jumping in real fast I have to say I've developed a minor obsession with books by Chuck Palahniuk, the guy who wrote fight club. I'm currently reading Lullabye and its amazing.
The other author who's books I read obsessively is Neil Gaiman, I LOVE everything he writes, Neverwhere and Good Omens are two of my favorite books of all time.
I'm a bit of a Sci-Fi Fantasy nerd, so I generally read loads of that stuff....I don't read too many things of the biography sort, but I did just read Bruce Campbells Autobiography, If Chins Could Kill, and absolutely adored it. He's a funny guy.

He's a funny guy. That book was hilarious. Did you get a chance to read his other book, Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way? That one was a riot, too.

I haven't read it, but I have it on Audio CD and its my favorite thing EVER! You just can't beat Bruce. I also just finished reading The Jaws Log, by Carl Gottlieb. It's all about the behind-the-scenes mayhem during the making of the movie Jaws. It's a good look at the realities of moviemaking.

That said, currently, I am reading the following books: The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins (also recommended by former FP-er Dan Brown) I hate to be "that chick" but although I have not read Dawkins I have an issue with his use of science to "prove" religion. Science and religion are two different realms. You can not use one to argue for or against the other.
