Fiction Plane management has just announced that the opening act for the band's nearly sold-out Dec 7 Paradiso show is none other than Dutch party-rock band, Memphis Maniacs. Known for its over-the-top stage show (see the band's video clips for examples), Memphis Maniacs is sure to assist Fiction Plane in making December 7 into a truly festive evening.

I read somewhere that Memphis Maniacs were being considered. I also heard some people were dissappointed. I think they would be entertaining and would probably enjoy it. That's just my opinion though.

Interesting. I'm a bit disappointed. Would have loved to see a great new band. Oh well. I'm sure it will be entertaining.

I agree Nicole, a new band would have been more appropriate. Actually I doubt the need for a support act at all. Having been to the Paradiso before and knowing how many of the dedicated fans are going I think we will be ready for FP the second we get through those doors. No warm ups necessary!

All headliners need an opener... If not just for the purpose of testing out the soundsystem. Besides, you guys might actually enjoy it more than you know, if you don't go in expecting to be disappointed. It's probably a lot more entertaining to listen to a band play cover songs you know as opposed to a one that plays song you never heard.
Besides, if it weren't for FP supporting Sting, The Police, The Bravery, snoop dogg/311,etc a lot of FP's fanbase wouldn't even know of their existence. So please try to be a little more tolerant of an opener.

The Memphis Maniacs were also playing at the Paaspop festival in the Netherlands. After Paaspop, I saw an interview with Joe, at the festival, later at the night, in which he told the interviewer that he had just seen a band that did mash-ups with wellknown songs, and that he liked it. I guess he was talking about the Memphis Maniacs then, and that the guys really wanted them as an opening band themselves.
I must admit that I have doubts whether their set would work as an opening band. I think it's better to enjoy them later at night, after having a few drinks. But let's hope they proove me wrong!

I'm very happy to be entertained by the Maniacs or whoever else and am completely aware of the benefits to new bands from supporting those better known than they. However, having been to the previous FP headline gigs in Europe where FP played successfully with no support, I think that there are odd occasions when support is preferable but not absolutely necessary. The Paradiso in my opinion is one of these. I was just making a point based upon personal experience and paying a compliment to the the FP fans who will be at this particular gig. I can't explain why exactly but the Paradiso is a special venue and with so many of the harem ladies, .infoers and Fictionaires in attendance the guys will be sure of a gig to remember. We will link up as friends from all over Europe (and beyond) and rock our socks off for FP, support or no support. Partytime!!!! ;D

Funny, everyone is having a meltdown over the Dutch opener. Anyone even know who is opening the French dates?

I was wondering who would be opening the French gigs. Would be great if the Molotovs were! Since FP is the headliner, it will probably be a local/regional act. If it was a full-blown tour, then I would suspect a signed band.
