Sad news: FABCHANNEL.COM Shutting Down

Just got an email message regarding the closing of FabChannel.com. This is seriously sad news, since FabChannel was one of the premiere outlets spotlighting Fiction Plane's inimitable live performances.

Here is the official message from FabChannel.com:

After nine passionate and beautiful years of sharing the most amazing concert recordings with you, Fabchannel is stopping. A great number of record labels still won't allow us to record their artists. This prevents us from offering what we need to keep Fabchannel alive.

We want to sincerely thank you for all support through the years! It has been an amazing time, but unfortunately this is where it ends.

With a bleeding heart we're pulling the plug of our online archive Friday 13th of March. Until that time, enjoy your favorite concerts and who knows, we'll meet again.

That really sucks, but I can understand about labels being finicky with the recording rights. Seems like everyone is doing DVDs nowadays.

Makes me wonder if this was part of some grand scheme to increase interest in the FP DVD. Spooky coincidence that Fabchannel would shut down a mere 10 days before the release of Paradiso? Conspiracy? Read the book.

Ahh, this sucks. It was so cool to be able to watch FP live from thousands of miles away.

As for a conspiracy theory, I think you're reading too much into it... I think it's just the way the industry is going. I also heard somewhere that some labels may only release digital albums from now on... Sad, very sad.

Fabchannel was a great site to see concerts, especially FP! I'm sad because it was one of the only ways to see FP in concert w/good quality picture and sound!

I know quite a few people who became FP fans after seeing the Paradiso footage so this is sad news indeed.

I see it's officially down now. So sad. At least we'll be able to see last Dec's Paradiso again once the DVD is out.

I wonder what happened to their archive?
