It had to happen eventually. But what is most disturbing is that this review is from a Dutch website. An unnamed reporter posted this review of the Paradiso DVD at Revu.nl. For those non-Dutch speakers, here is a loose translation, courtesy of Google Translate: "Joe Sumner, Sting's son and lead singer of Fiction Plane, had the time of his life in the Netherlands. They played in the Arena (in the program of The Police), in the sun at Pinkpop and sold both in the Milky Way as Paradiso. Why the band is so popular, continuing with the release of this DVD, remains a mystery. It has not helped to the repertoire of the band. Besides that one hit Two Sisters, the rest of the material stabs at average middle-of-the-road rock and a touch of ska. The latter course, Joe learned from Daddy. Like bass playing, singing and energetic show a drop. And if you see him doing so, it is just like his father. That voice is bizarrely close to Dad and even the facial expressions do to the young Sting thinking. The Police will never show in a small room as Paradiso. So therefore, the die-hard Police fans of course present at this gig in Amsterdam. For every movement, every breath of fresh air and each son loves to sniff, as if The Police himself who was on stage. And therefore remain in this DVD (which has almost nothing for extras) nothing about, because without that sweaty air (and yes, Joe can really sweat) is a mediocre band playing."

One bad review in a sea of great ones! Oh well. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I still don't see how people can compare the Police and FP though. The bands sound NOTHING alike. Joe's voice can occasionally have a twinge of Stingness...but very, very rarely. FP's music and the Police music are not similar at all. I just don't hear it!

A "sea" How many reviews of the Paradiso DVD have you read? My beef with it is that the review came from the same country in which the friggin' thing was recorded. Sounds very Benedict Arnold-ish to me. Sure everyone has an opinion, but not everyone's gets published.

Yes, that is very surprising. Joe is Sting's son? Really??!! - You often know a review will be slating when it launches with that old chestnut. *yawn* Pfft!!! What a pile of poo!!

Sounds to me like this "unnamed reporter" has a chip on their shoulder. Maybe he/she couldn't get tickets to the SOLD OUT show No worries, not everyone liked The Police either! I just tried translating the comments and it sounds like they were defending Fiction Plane.

Just a load of sh..! We love you and we know you're the best band, right !!!! Sting is Joe's father, so what? Joe is Joe and he's great. When I discovered FP, I sometimes compared the two, but today, I NEVER think of Sting when I hear Joe singing ! I just think of how great Joe is !!! Lots of love to my favourite band Marie (France)

Have to agree with all of the comments above !! I've never been much of a Sting fan, and I do NOT hear Joe AT ALL when listening to Sting or The Police. But I still really can't help smiling..... In the early 80's there was a review published in one of the biggest Danish news papers. The "critic" wrote that this was the worst LP (oh those good old days...) he had EVER heard, and this band was 100% waste of time, and would never be nothing but a glimpse in the rock music history books. Oh, by the way - the album being reviewed was an album called "October", and the band was called U2......... ;D My point is that it doesn't really matter what some "critics" say - they just have one voice amongst millions. And honestly, do any of you lot pay any attention to the critics I sure don't. If anything, I take a listen to the artist that they "slaughter"....

I just wanna say I love love love October!
All bands get negative feedback once in a while don't they? It's still publicity in my book.
I still love FP, especially Paradiso.

If anything, I take a listen to the artist that they "slaughter".... It is nice that some people believe that, but at the end of the day, it seems that the majority of Americans like to be led like lambs. If a band doesn't get a favorable (or any) press in mags like Rolling Stone or EW, MOST people won't even acknowledge the band's existence. That is the unfortunate reality of the industry in the 21st Century.

Yes Joe is Sting 's son, but it is not a shame to be compare to one of the best singer and musician. Yes some of Fiction Plane fans are Sting or Police fans, is it a problem ? I don't think so. I don't ear Sting when I listen to Joe, but yes he's got a beautiful voice too, I don't see Sting when I see Joe but yes he is very sexy too. This review is stupid ! In France it is not a problem to be a father's son.
Joe, be yourself, no matter what they say...

Every single band on the planet will have a negative review from somewhere every single time they release anything. It is impossible to please all of the people all of the time. I usually read very negative reviews with great amusement and I must admit, it also prompts me to check the band out to see if they are in fact as bad as the reviewer makes out. It's very silly really - in fact if anything it is a massive endorsement for Fiction Plane for anyone who likes the Police! When I first listened to FP I thought 2 Sisters was very Police like (not that I was complaining). I then heard them saying in an interview somewhere that they wrote that song as a tribute to the Police more or less. Of course Joe sounds like Sting occasionally - as he has said many times, he can hardly help that, his pipes are the same!! But as Marie said, I no longer hear that now - I just hear Joe (I could listen to that man sing all day and all night and then all the next day too!!) Who cares at the end of the day really - if this reviewer is a regular I bet he slates bands a lot. We have a particular reviewer in Ireland who does that and no-one really pays him any attention anymore - or as I said, if they do read the review will go and check the band out. This is not going to do any long time harm and it cannot be expected that every review will be positive. If I did not know the band that review would absolutely prompt me to check them out - just to hear what Sting's son sounds like. And I LOVED that last quote by enila!! Very good OH - and last word - the absolute COWARD for reviewing anonymously. Perhaps he was afraid he would be lynched?!!! By the MANY Fiction Plane fans in Holland for a start! Lets see when they play Amsterdam again how many people are booing them in the audience eh? What an ass ;D

I wonder how this album ended up selling. Did anyone see copies for sale when they were on the road this past summer?
