Definitely want "Brakes" on the new album. Along w/ "Lullaby", "Put Your Shoes On", "At Ease", and so many of the songs already previewed here. I really hope they make a double album, since there's so much out there to grace this album. I wish they'd made a poll and asked what songs we would like the most to have on the album. Would've rocked. I can only assume (and hope) that they know what's best for all of us. I want a diverse album. I love their studio and their live sound. I guess I prefer the studio sound, because you can do so much more than live, yet their studio sound on LSOTB sounded very "live" to me -- and that's what I loved about it. A double album would be awesome! So would a diverse one, but that would be difficult to sell to the critics, I think. I just hope they don't lose that hint of funk they gained from the Snoop tour! I haven't heard any of that from the clips of the new stuff appearing on youtube.

???Yes, yes! The eternal "double albums don't sell" edict. I know. I guess, if I owned a record company I would probably be out of business. I'd be the type saying, "Hey, if you're having trouble deciding which songs to put on the album, why not make it a double album. I'll pay for it." I'd be the type of person who'd release it at a single LP price, and make up the difference w/ my own assets, for the sake of the art. In this day and age, the best bet is to get w/ a distributor that can make it financially-feasible to release a deluxe package. Maybe Target or Best Buy can make a deal w/ Bieler Bros. (wouldn't that be nice) to release it exclusively thru their stores. It worked for The Eagles...8 million copies sold so far.
:-/Of course, I'm not expecting a double dose...it's just that they're such a concept-oriented trio, they would have no trouble doing a diverse package that would be experimental and unusual. I'd actually be surprised if any critics had a problem w/ diversity: Fiction Plane is a Post-Post Punk/Alt. Rock group...w/ that mixed template, who wouldn't want to "mess around" w/ their sound? Who'd have a problem w/ a Jazz piece, since Pete Wilhoit has a degree in Jazz composition? Seton's got diverse tastes, and we KNOW Joe's got varied musical interests. No limits. I agree w/ Joe: Record/marketing execs (excluding Indie labels, which tend to have an "alternative" view on the matter, like Bieler Bros.) should stick to selling finished albums, and artists should only be concerned w/ their craft -- making quality music.

Probably not, drinksmithwicks. Since it's the 13th and I'm home right now. I would've gone, but I don't think I could do the "Standing Room Only" thing for 90 minutes or more w/ a weak knee (exercise strain). I was actually going to go see The Pretenders at Central Park this week, but standing in a rain shower seemed too apparent as well. It's so great we've got some good bands in the city to hear. Rock on.

Unfortunately, FP doesn't have a relationship with Bieler Bros. anymore. I was actually livid when the album finally came out in stores, Bieler Bros didn't do any type of special first-week-pricing, like they did for EVERY ONE of their other bands. If you went to Best Buy on the date of a Skindred or Nonpoint release, the CD would only be around $5. And in a sickening turn of money-grabbing, when you DID go to Best Buy when Left Side came out, they were having an ADVERTISED sale (which lasted through the entire first leg of The Police tour) via MCA for Everything Will Never Be Okay. So, you go into the store, look for Fiction Plane, and rather than find pricing or labeling promoting the then "new" album, they had promo for the FIRST album instead. It really does not suprise me that they stayed with BB for just that album.

:)Thanks, Drinksmithwicks. Don't worry, I will definitely see them some day. My heart was there w/ you guys. Anyone know what the setlist was? Us FP fans, we're like this semi-unknown/underground group of people...I feel like what many of the adherents of Punk in the 1970s must've felt like -- which I think we are totally in the throes of in 2009 (another DIY movement). I'm feeling very positive about new music this year...God, I hope this continues in 2010 and on.
>:(Wow! I did not know that the Bieler Bros. situation was kaput. What happened? Is that why I can't find 1 copy of LSOTB in any stores. WHAT THE HELL, MAN?! I bought it on-line (which seems to be the only way fans of any kind of "non-commercial/big label" band can purchase their music), like I will have to for so many other interesting bands out there. How freaking inconvenient is this crap?! Remember when you could literally stroll to your local Sam Goody's, HMV, Tower, Virgin, etc. store and just EXPLORE AND BUY? What the Hell happened?! Even independent, Mom & Pop stores have died for the most part; and what sucks is that many of those stores don't have access to the import/indie albums many want, and the problem is in reverse at Best Buy/Target: You can't find indie groups because they don't have the exposure. Ugh! You really "earn" your fandom in this day and age.
:oSo are you guys saying that FP is shopping these new cuts to possible labels? It should really be the other way around, labels crying to sign them. Well, that pretty much kills a possible "lengthy" album concept from my mind. I wonder if they'll try the major label route again? This totally sucks! I guess they're having much better luck in EU than in the US. Hence, why they're traversing back and forth...gotta make that money! Gotta pay that rent! (Like the rest of us)
Thanks, guys, keep in touch.

The setlist, some video, and a bunch of photos are posted in another thread here. >:(Wow! I did not know that the Bieler Bros. situation was kaput. What happened? Ugh! You really "earn" your fandom in this day and age. I'm guessing the band got fed up with the lack of press coverage or video distribution. All BB really ever did for them was get them some great tours, but they never followed up with press or radio support. The band also wasn't happy that BB pushed "Death Machine" as a radio single - which, as we saw, did not impact well. Word is that their booking agent actually got them the couple Late Night television appearances they did - not BB! If you look around, there are a few decent indie stores that are doing well. Of course, they are usually in college towns. I've kinda always detested Best Buy stores, because they really do cheapen the music shopping experience. :oSo are you guys saying that FP is shopping these new cuts to possible labels? It should really be the other way around, labels crying to sign them. Well, that pretty much kills a possible "lengthy" album concept from my mind. I wonder if they'll try the major label route again? Well, if you look at it from a label perspective (and I mean no disrespect to FP by this), but they would be looked upon as two-time losers. They started out on MCA, got some great tours, but didn't garner a full-on radio hit or sell many albums. Same thing happened with BB. Sure, some territories latched onto "Two Sisters", but it wasn't something that spread like wildfire or turned into a true Top 40 hit. That said, some seriously influential label people did come out to the show, so my fingers are crossed that something develops. This totally sucks! I guess they're having much better luck in EU than in the US. Hence, why they're traversing back and forth...gotta make that money! Gotta pay that rent! (Like the rest of us) To put it more specifically, they are having better luck in a couple territories in the EU, primarily in France and Holland. I'm hoping that the success bleeds into the other countries over there, so they really become a phenomenon.
