it's in the basement of a Persian restaurant called The Green Onion. Wow, a Persian restaurant? Don' think I've ever even seen one of those.

Well, I went to The Cave in Portland a couple weeks ago to check it out and I really liked it. It was small, but the tables were full and there were even people standing. It was some jazz group from San Fran. I was already picking out my spot for the Ari show in April.
They had awesome hummus. I say HAD because apparently they closed their doors. boooo!
So, now I have no show after all.

The bulletin said they were going to try to find another venue. I would say my house, but it's a bit small and I have my dog who likes to sniff strangers. LOL

That sucks, Jen. If they don't reschedule, can you go to the other Oregon show?

It is in my hometown of Eugene. However, it's on a Wednesday and the whole childcare thing is an issue (my little son has school) and I wouldn't have anyone to go with (most of my friends work). Whereas for the Portland date, it was a friday night and I had a babysitter lined up and someone to go with me.
We'll see.

Are you going to go to his Boston date, Nicole? I'm pretty sure I'm hitting the Philly show... I really like the new stuff he has on myspace!

I just got back from seeing Lisa Hannigan at the Paradise and was trying to convince my friend to go check him out with me. If she doesn't go, I may just hit it up solo. I need to surround myself with great music while suffering in this cold, snowy winter!!!!

Bought a ticket today for the show next Thursday. I haven't found anyone to go with me...but going solo to shows is cool sometimes.

Went to see Ari Hest last night in Boston. I'd never been to Cafe 939 before. The venue has only been open for a year. It is a little coffee house in the front, and then the back room is a small area for music.
I arrived about halfway through the set for the opener, Tim Brantley. The first thing I noticed was how great the sound was in this tiny room. Not surprising as this small room is run by Berklee students. Brantley was alone on stage. His songs were a little weak in my opinion, I think I would have enjoyed it more had he brought his whole band along. Just took a listen on his Myspace page...and the tunes aren't too bad there.
By the time Hest came on stage the venue was HOT. My, the temperature was terrible in there. The room was pretty packed, but not that packed! I felt as though I could faint! Hest wore a jacket the whole time, and I don't know how he did it! I only lasted an hour of his set. I don't know what to think of the music. Some of the songs sounded too similar to me. I was hoping for a bit more "umph" with the live show. I really dug on Cranberry Lake and Dead End Drving. The crowd really was into the show...concentrating so much on the lyrics and music you could hear a pin drop between songs. I really believe most of the audience was under the age of 18!
Maybe I would have enjoyed this show a bit more had the venue been more comfortable. Maybe a seat and a bit cooler? I will have to check out the new album though. I can give it another shot.

Ari Hest - Alberta Pub - Portland Oregon This Sunday! My friend lives a couple blocks away from the pub so I will be heading to her house early for drinks and snacks then walking over to see the show. This is the same place I saw Guggenheim Grotto. It's pretty cool. Small. I think it used to be a church at one time (just a guess though). High ceilings and church pews for seating. Interesting place. Great big giant clock inside saying the time is always 4:20.
